How MelNet Began

MelNet, the Melanoma Network of New Zealand Incorporated, was established in November 2008 when over 230 health professionals at the inaugural Melanoma Summit unanimously agreed to establish a network linking all health professionals working in melanoma.

Since then, MelNet has continued to consolidate its communication and coordination role, with highlights including:

  • A well-developed website providing a resource and communication centre
  • A key role in developing the Standards of Service Provision for Melanoma Patients in New Zealand – Provisional
  • Hosting four highly successful national Melanoma Summits to share knowledge, promote best practice and identify priorities for action
  • A key role in coordinating the development of the New Zealand Skin Cancer Primary Prevention and Early Detection Strategy
  • Becoming a legal entity as an incorporated society & registered as a charity with the Charities Services
  • An ever-increasing membership, now totalling well over 1000.
