2012 melanoma registrations and deaths in New Zealand

Selected data on melanoma in 2012
- In 2012 melanoma was the fourth most commonly registered cancer in New Zealand, with 2324 cases (1228 in men and 1096 in women).
- Melanoma registrations comprised 10.7% of all cancer cases.
- Melanoma was the second most common cancer registered for men and for women 25-44 years. Only 6.9% of all cancers were registered in this age group.
- Melanoma was the second most common cancer registered for men and for women 45-64 years. 34.3% of all cancers were registered in this age group.
- Melanoma was the fourth most common cancer registered for men and for women 65-74 years. This age group accounted for 28.1% of new cancer cases in 2012.
- In 2012 melanoma was the fifth most common
cause of cancer deaths in men (222) and the seventh in women (132).
