Meeting report from 2018 Sunscreen Summit
May 12, 2018
Melanomas and keratinocyte cancers (BCC and SCC of the skin) are largely preventable, yet their incidence remains extremely high and the costs of treatment continue to climb. Primary prevention is the mainstay of skin cancer control efforts.
On 19 and 20 March, the Australian Skin and Skin Cancer Research Centre (ASSC) hosted a Sunscreen Summit with a view to developing a consensus approach to sunscreen policy.
The Summit proved to be a great success with over 100 representatives from NGOs, government agencies, specialist colleges, research institutions, policy makers and consumers, all gathering in one forum to hear the latest developments in skin cancer prevention.
The Summit organising committee has prepared a Meeting Report, which includes a summary of the closed workshop on Day 2 of the Sunscreen Summit. Please note that the Draft Position Statement at the end of the report carries no formal endorsements from any organisations as yet, although they expect that these will be forthcoming in the near future.
The Australian Skin and Skin Cancer Research Centre is a joint collaboration of The University of Queensland and QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute.
