New International Agency for Research on Cancer melanoma data released

May 22, 2018

New International Agency for Research on Cancer data released this month shows the number of melanoma attributable to UV by regions.

The Cancers Attributable to UV Radiation website is part of the Global Cancer Observatory (GCO) and aims to provide estimates of the preventable melanoma burden using a standardized analytical approach for all countries. At least 1 in every 100 new cancer cases results from UV radiation exposure, with 168 000 new attributable melanoma cases in 2012; these findings underline the need for continuing targeted prevention efforts, especially in high-incidence populations.
