Australian College of Dermatologists release guideline for Sentinel Node Biopsy

The Australian College of Dermatologists (ACD) has released a new guideline for sentinel node biopsy. It concludes: 

  • Careful discussion of the risks and benefits of the procedure with all sentinel node biopsy eligible patients is recommended.
  • Sentinel node biopsy be performed at the time of wide local excision.
  • Sentinel node positive patients are able to access adjuvant therapy to improve survival.
  • Sentinel node positive patients require increased surveillance intensity.
