Job vacancy: Melanoma Educator (part time) at Melanoma New Zealand
October 27, 2020
More than 4000 people are diagnosed with melanoma in New Zealand every year, and more than 300 people a year die from it in New Zealand. New Zealand has the highest incidence of melanoma in the world, but the good news is, if it is detected and treated early enough, it is almost always curable.
Education and awareness are key to saving lives. Do you want to be a vital part of a team dedicated to reversing these alarming statistics?
Melanoma New Zealand is looking for two part-time Melanoma Educators with qualifications and experience in dermoscopy. Ideally suited to a Doctor or Registered Nurse, these busy new roles present an exciting opportunity to travel the country in Melanoma New Zealand’s new van providing awareness and education in the community about melanoma prevention as well as providing spot checks to help raise awareness about the importance of regular full skin checks for early detection. The van will seek out a presence at nationwide events and locations, such as health hauora, expos, sporting fixtures, beaches, rural settings, workplaces and high traffic retail areas.
The Educators will also help provide support and information to melanoma patients and their families, respond to individual enquiries for information, provide compelling and interactive educational presentations, ensure resources are up-to-date and liaise with other health agencies and support services.
A relevant qualification, knowledge and experience of health promotion is preferred, and melanoma clinical practice experience is essential.
Reporting to the CEO, each role is 16 hours per week, though with the possibility of this increasing over time. There is flexibility with how the 16 hours can be structured – and each working week could vary to suit the Educator's availability while ensuring demand is being met.
The role is ideally based in Auckland though candidates based in other regions will be considered.
Considerable travel around New Zealand and time away from home is required in this role, and so candidates must have flexibility and an adventurous appetite for getting into communities across the country and engaging with a wide range of New Zealanders.
If this role is of interest to you, please e-mail your CV and a covering letter to admin@melanoma.org.nz
