Cancer Research Trust New Zealand
General Manager
Home-based Flexible Hours Position - currently Auckland-based, but could be elsewhere in New Zealand.
We are calling for expressions of interest for the role of General Manager for Cancer Research Trust NZ (CRTNZ) to replace Dr Douglas Ormrod who is retiring.
CRTNZ is an independent registered charity founded in 2001. Its key purpose is to raise and distribute funds to New Zealand’s top cancer research scientists and clinicians to undertake leading-edge research and professional development. To date more than $18 million has been distributed and CRTNZ is New Zealand’s second largest non-government funder of cancer research.
We support research and professional development across the cancer-control spectrum so that significant advances continue to be made in understanding, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer, as well as in end-of-life care.
The General Manager will have a background in laboratory and/or clinical cancer research or a related discipline (such as public health or pathology), preferably at PhD level. Research management experience would also be an advantage. Their core responsibility is to liaise between the research community and the CRTNZ Assessment Committee and Board, and to manage the rigorous peer review process that underpins the success of the Trust’s grant award programme. This is a sole charge position. As well as processing the research grant rounds the General Manager will be responsible for managing the financial administration of the Trust’s operation. The role entails working with people at all levels across local and international academia.
The successful applicant’s responsibilities include:
- Managing the grant review and research funding process
- Contracting and monitoring research outputs
- Paying the monthly accounts using Xero software
- Liaising with the Trust’s accountant and overseeing the annual financial audit
- Promotion of the Trust via social media and other platforms
- Managing the web site, donor database and other fundraising platforms
- Preparing lay stories based on research outcomes for public consumption.
Our values of respect, sustainability, collaboration, and transparency underpin our work. For further information regarding the history and work of CRTNZ visit www.cancerresearchtrustnz.org....

Expressions of interest are to be forwarded to douglas.ormrod@crtnz.org.nz along with a Curriculum Vitae on or before 26th February 2021. Interviews will be held in Auckland thereafter, or by zoom if necessary.
