Optimal management of regional node-field for high-risk T3b and T4 primary melanomas likely achieved by combining SNB and adjuvant immunotherapy for suitable patients

10 April 2023

Is sentinel node biopsy (SNB) no longer required for patients with T3 and T4 primary melanomas? Authors of this recent paper propse that in the absence of prospective data, the optimal management of the regional node-field for high-risk T3b and T4 primary melanomas is likely to be achieved by combining SNB and adjuvant immunotherapy for those patients who are suitable, rather than either treatment alone.

Skin cancer risk self-assessment using AI as a mass screening tool

10 April 2023

Authors of this recent study proposed a free AI-powered self-examination tool allowing everyone to perform regular skin checkups with a smartphone's photo coupled with the new set of risk factors suitable for self-assessment. The study concludes that the proposed approach proved to be a cost-efficient way of doing mass skin cancer screenings.

Strategies to improve adherence to skin self-examination and other self-management practices in people at high risk of melanoma

10 April 2023

Using an adaptation of the World Health Organization framework for clinical adherence, this scoping review of randomized clinical trials identified key concepts as well as gaps in the way adherence is approached in design, conduct, and reporting of trials for skin self-examination and other self-management practices in people at high risk of melanoma. These findings may usefully guide future trials and clinical practice; evaluation of adherence strategies may be possible using a Study Within A Trial (SWAT) framework within host trials.
