19 April 2020Melanoma‐associated retinopathy (MAR) is a rare paraneoplastic autoimmune manifestation of cutaneous malignant melanoma. Early recognition of MAR can precede the diagnosis of primary or metastatic malignant melanoma. The focus of this review article is to raise awareness of MAR and present the latest evidence relating to the investigation and management of this condition.

It concludes that scalp location is a strong prognostic factor of death from thin melanoma, and that melanomas with a thickness of 0·80–1·00 mm are the more hazardous thin lesions.
