Molecular profiling of driver events in metastatic uveal melanoma

Metastatic uveal melanoma is less well understood than its primary counterpart, has a distinct biology compared to skin melanoma, and lacks effective treatments. This study represents the largest whole-genome analysis of uveal melanoma to date, and presents an updated view of the metastatic disease.

Keratinocyte cancer anatomic site useful in identifying patients at increased risk for melanoma

Patients diagnosed with keratinocyte cancer (KC) experience heightened risk for melanoma, yet patients who go on to develop this malignancy have not been well-characterized. According to this recent study, in addition to pigmentary traits, ultraviolet radiation (UVR)-related factors, and clinical features of KC such as anatomic site may be useful in identifying patients at increased risk for melanoma after KC.

Poor agreement between automated risk assessment of smartphone application for skin cancer detection and rating by dermatologists

This recent study investigated the performance of the automated risk assessment of an app by comparing its assessment to that of a dermatologist in lesions selected by the participants.It concludes that the rating of the automated risk assessment was poor, and that further investigations about the diagnostic accuracy in real‐life situations are needed to provide consumers with reliable information about this healthcare application.

Investigation and management of melanoma-associated retinopathy

Melanoma‐associated retinopathy (MAR) is a rare paraneoplastic autoimmune manifestation of cutaneous malignant melanoma. Early recognition of MAR can precede the diagnosis of primary or metastatic malignant melanoma. The focus of this review article is to raise awareness of MAR and present the latest evidence relating to the investigation and management of this condition.
