International review of the UV index

An international workshop established to assess if current evidence was sufficiently strong to modify the UV Index concluded that for it to be relevant in as many countries as possible, ithe UV Index should continue to be adapted to suit local conditions.

In light of unintended sunburn experienced by 13.5% of respondents who were not intending to tan, future public health initiatives should focus on increasing sun protection (clothing and shade) and reducing potential barriers to sun protection, according to the researchers who analysed data from the NZ Triennial Sun Protection Survey.

Message framing (i.e., gain vs. loss) and risk type (i.e., health vs appearance risk) in skin cancer prevention messages interact with prior experience, according to results of this study.  The authors conclude that prevention messages should differ for those with and without prior experience.
